One Week Program.
Depart for Shkodra, Albania! Most flights from the U.S. will leave
in the mid afternoon or evening and arrive in Tirana airport the following
Arrival Morning: Arrive at Tirana International Airport
(TIA) where you will be met by I.A.L.C. on-site teacher. From here, you might meet any students traveling on different airlines and transfer to the hotel located in the heart of the city’s district. At the hotel, you will have time to
freshen up after your long journey! Mirë se vini në Shqipëri! - Welcome to Albania!
Afternoon: Get to know your teachers and
fellow travelers over an orientation lunch followed by a walking tour of Shkoder. Shop in the Zogu
I Blvd., marvel at the English Clock Tower built in 1880, see the Historical Museum of Shkodra in the Traditional Shkodra House of Oso Kuka, Catholic Cathedral, Orthodox Cathedral, Ebu Bekr Mosque, and the Monument of Mother Teresa. Other possible
explorations include: National Photo Gallery "Marubi", Hamam (Turkish bath/sauna), Monument of Isa Boletini (Lunch and dinner will be paid
for on your own so you can start practicing paying in Lek!)
Evening: Enjoy an evening stroll along the Buna River and have dinner with your new friends. We will also have another orientation briefing before getting some much needed sleep. Return to the hotel to get a good night’s sleep!
breakfast (included) at the hotel. Today you’ll start your Albanian language course at our partner institution. Classes are taught by native speakers and take place close to your hotel, not far from Shkodra Lake. You will take a placement test to evaluate your level of Albanian and be placed into the correct class. No placement test for beginners. I.A.L.C. Albanian Courses focus on the practical acquisition of the language and are both challenging and fun!
Afternoon: Enjoy lunch (in the restaurant of the fortress) overlooking one of Shkodra’s best preserved ancient
monuments, the Rozafa Castle, built by Illyrians in 230 BC. Spend the afternoon exploring Rozafa Castle on a guided orientation tour and the surroundings of the Lean Mosque, a slow view of the city's landscape. After lunch and strolling the cobble stone streets, depart for Shkodra.
Evening: Spend the evening exploring night life in Shkodra and practice your Albanian around the city park at the language institute! After, enjoy a nice dinner at Bar Restaurant "Villa Bekteshi" and relaxing evening with your friends and teacher.
Morning: After breakfast, intensive Albanian classes. Watch your skills progress as you learn Albanian from native speakers! Many students will meet after classes for an ice cream and a typical stroll around the neighborhood and getting your mind thinking in Albanian!
Afternoon: Depart for Bridge of Mesi built in 18th century, visit the medieval castle of Drivatsum-Drisht and the Kratul Fortification built in 1st century BC. Soak up the many inspiring views along your visit throughout this geographically unique and culturally rich region. Lunch in a restaurant near the Bridge of Mesi.
Evening: Transfer to Shkodra and stop for dinner at one of the regions finest restaurant “Tradita,” with typical dishes from Shkodra. Enjoy a nice evening meal with your Teachers! Mealtime is important in Albania and where you’ll learn cultural differences and be immersed in the language.
Morning: After breakfast you will have an in-depth Albanian tutoring session at an outdoor café of the hotel. Watch your Albanian skills continue to progress as you master new grammatical concepts and improve in your speaking ability.
Afternoon: Head to the beautiful
towns of Lezha founded 385 BC and Shengjina beautiful Albanian seaside town. Here, you’ll get to experience Albanian culture in a different city! Watch your Albanian come to life as you interact with local vendors, spend time getting to know them and practicing your Albanian skills and indulge in some of the region’s local cuisine. Eat lunch at one of the many restaurants close to Shengjin beach. (On summer season) Depart for Velipoja Lagoon to explore this nearby beach paradise! Soak up some sun on one of Velipoja’s pristine beaches.
Evening: Arrive back to Shkoder where you’ll have dinner in a restaurant near the Shkodra lake with typical dish from Shkodra based on carp. This is also a great opportunity to explore Albania more by eating at
restaurants, shopping, and taking in the sights.
Morning & Afternoon: Head to the beautiful city of Kruja, the touristic capital of Albania, for a
full day excursion! Visit the Skanderbeg Museum, The National
Ethnographic Museum, Kruja Castle and the Bazaar of Derexhik. Eat at a local Kruja restaurant and enjoy the shopping that Bazaar has to offer. Kruja is a great place to purchase all the typical Albanian souvenirs to take home!
Evening: After returning to Shkoder, a fun evening activity with your teacher will be planned. Take advantage of the evening hours to practice your language skills with your teachers. Finish off a great day having dinner with your group before going to bed early.
Morning: Regular Albanian classes during morning hours. See your skills continue to progress as you explore new concepts, grammar, and culture! Enjoy the morning by walking the town and soaking up Albanian sun at Shkodra Lake!
Afternoon: Head to the Albanian Alps, Razma village for a half day excursion! Here, you will explore the region’s most famed mountain range and neighboring villages. Enjoy the day hiking, exploring and seeing first-hand the life in the Albanian countryside. A beautiful panoramic view and its breathtaking landscapes followed by lunch at Razma resort.
Evening: Enjoy a final party with your group and spend some time with them to share memories of your time in Albania! Don’t forget to pack your
bags to prepare for the journey back home!
Morning: Enjoy your last breakfast and morning in Shkodra with your group and teachers. Now that your Albanian language skills have improved, use them as much as possible! After breakfast, you will meet with your group and teachers for one final “Mirupafshim - Good bye” to Albania.
Afternoon & Evening: Students will be transported to the Tirana Int’l Airport to catch their flight home. Fly back with wonderful memories of Albania that you will remember the rest of your life!
Two - Three Week Programs.
Potential elective activities for week two and three include: picnics, dance lessons, soccer games or tennis games with other students, visits to nearby beaches and towns, local cultural and sporting events, Café Astoria to practice your Albanian and more!

One Month Program.
potential activities include: exchanges with local students,
visits to cultural museums around Tirane and Durres and other Albanian cities, continued fun activities, parties, cooking workshop and
volleyball, basketball or soccer on the beach, movie night in Albanian, camping, hacking, trip to the local
shopping bazaars, and many more!
During each week and on weekend days students will have free time
to explore Albania on their own. The I.A.L.C. staff provides students with suggested activities to
help learn more about their host city and culture.
